The Hope Alive Tour is a unique fundraising challenge for anyone who’s passionate about running. Inspired by the great anti-slavery campaigner William Wilberforce, it’s a 340-mile-long relay that you tackle with a team of fellow runners. The route begins in Hull, Wilberforce’s birthplace, before heading cross-country to Liverpool, one of the centres of the global slave trade. It then winds down through Nottingham (HQ of our fundraising target, Operation Orphan) to the finish line in Cambridge (where Wilberforce studied).

The cause

The Hope Alive Tour is raising money for Operation Orphan, a fantastic charity that is working to address the modern-day crisis of child slavery and exploitation. The Tour itself is designed explore and raise the issue of modern child slavery, and will empower Operation Orphan to keep children safe around the world.

The challenge

Each relay leg is between 3-4 miles. But it’s designed to be flexible according to team members’ needs and abilities. Finishing as a team is the goal, not breaking a world record. Eight to 10 runners complete a four-day relay from Hull to Cambridge, via Liverpool and Nottingham.

The experience of a lifetime. I loved every minute.
